One of the state mandated responsibilities for the Sheriff of any county in Michigan is to remove bodies from the waters of the county. Drowning is very infrequent in Hillsdale County, but when a drowning occurs, the Sheriff's Office is ready to dive for recovery.
The Dive Team is comprised of 15 members who are both certified deputies and volunteers from the community. All of the team members are certified Divers. Certifications include; Basic Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Ice Diver, Rescue Diver, Search & Recovery Diver, Oxygen Provider, and Dive Master. The team is prepared to dive in warm weather and through ice if needed.
